Command Section

This was what made building a facsimile of the Galaxy Command playset fun.

You will need to print out the file of the Command Section

You will need some Styrofoam or similar material about 14” x 9”, some Elmer’s Glue or any adhesive that will stick paper to Styrofoam or what ever you are working with, and some way to cut the Styrofoam. They make commercially available cutters to do this with that use heat to neatly cut the material. You will also need a piece of thin carboard about 4” x 4”, and a large domed drink cup cover. Clear plastic cups will do, but that’s up to you. A glue gun will be handy as well.

Glue the printout together. I recommend letting it dry before fussing with it on the Styrofoam. Once it has dried, glue it to the material and using your cutter, very carefully  cut around the blue terrain base. Then, on the inside where the control panel is, cut that out around the inside of the control panel.

Once that is done, dry fit the cardboard to the bottom of the terrain base, and cut it to fit, making it larger than the control room bottom but not too big to stick out of the terrain base. Glue it in place. The hot glue gun seems to do well with this.

Turn it over and place the dome on the control center. I don’t recommend gluing it as you can place astronauts and equipment inside it at a whim, and if the dome gets damaged you merely replace it without having to tear the old one off.

Heres an early version of my finished Galaxy Command. I made 2 sets of terrain bases.

I have progressed quite a bit since then by improving a lot of it and getting more Marx recast and other equipment. Notice the home made fuel tanks from PVC caps and a plastic card stock. If you want to paint the exposed Styrofoam, you can, but I got lazy and left it as is. Pardon the bar code on the cup, but like I said, this was early on, and the cup fit! Notice the dome cup top on the other command section. The “space gun” is from a bag full of space rockets and guns I got at a flea market.
